Other points to consider when deciding on a web hosting company are:

Reliability: A good host will guarantee uptime to be at least 99 percent of the time. Without this guarantee, the host has no incentive to maintain their servers.

Bandwidth: Once the server type is decided, data transfer or "bandwidth" should be considered. This determines how much data can be transferred to and from the site. Some companies offer limited bandwidth for a reduced price, but the fine print reveals that if the site exceeds the limits, extravagant charges may be levied (similar to roaming charges on a cell phone). For a typical small business just starting out, 3GB of bandwidth should be sufficient. Be sure to know what is involved in adding bandwidth and additional related costs if necessary. Even hosts who offer unlimited data transfer sometimes whack you with extraneous charges. Be sure to read the fine print.

Dedicated space: The amount of space dedicated to a business determines how many products and files you can accommodate. Typically, 5-15 MB of dedicated space is needed for a small- to medium-sized business. Once again, you must read the fine print and be sure you are aware of any and all charges that might apply if you go over or need to make changes.

Software compatibility: You must be sure that the host can accommodate any specific files that may already be in place or construction. Microsoft Expression Web extensions are important if you are using it to develop your site. Other software may have specific requirements that need to be met as well.
